Sakaramenta company will produce and sell low cost and strong bicycle carts in Malawi. Three bicycle cars are designed according to high Dutch quality standards:
- Care-car
- Sales-car
- Transport-car
Bicycle cars do hardly exist in Malawi, except for the ambulance cart which is built on low scale. Bicycles however are the most popular way of transport. The density of the bicycles in Malawi is for African standards very high, more then 10% (1.3 million) of the Malawians own a bicycle. A Sakaramenta car coupled behind the bicycle offers a unique economic potential; people can transport cheaper and more, it creates opportunities for individual transport entrepreneurs, it enlarges the geographical market for vendors and it offers a better gateway to hospitals. It also contributes to a better environment because of the CO2 reduction, caused by its products. The target groups are Malawian farmers, vendors, existing bicycle taxi drivers, companies which have to transport goods on small distances, hospitals and communities.
CARE CAR:
The care-car has a simple design with a stretcher on top of it. These ambulance carts already exist in Malawi, but just on small scale. The NGO Transport4transport sponsors a big amount care-cars. Communities in Malawi can get the care-cars for free, if they use the cars in the right way.
The care-car has a few distinctice characters:
* Strong design with round tubes
* Stretcher can be removed from the car
* Stretcher works like a suspension, for more comfort
* The coupling from the bike to the car is made from flexible rubber.
* The wheels of the car are durable 26 inch wheels
SALES-CAR:
The sales-car differentiates from the transport-car in having vertical edges and a cover. This cart can also be used as a market stall, with the cover used as a board to show the goods. The target group of the sell cart are the market sellers. The cart enlarges their potential sales market and gives the possibility to sell a wider variety of goods.
TRANSPORT-CAR:
The transport car is a simple cart, with two wheels, an iron frame, a floor for loading and a tow bar to link to the bicycle. It can be used to transport every kind of product, such as maize, wood, vegetables etc. The target group of the transport cart are farmer/ farmer community, new transport entrepreneur, bicycle taxi driver, post- transport-companies and hotels.
Bicycle taxis are very common in Malawi, these bicycle taxis are normal bicycle with a hardened backseat and a cushion to transport a person. A transport cart has the advantage that a bicycle taxis can transport much more.
